Margaret Ann Laurence

May 3, 1925 – May 28, 2017 Aptos, California Margaret Laurence passed away May 28 in Aptos, California at the age of 92. A memorial mass will be celebrated Friday June 9 at 11 am at Holy Eucharist Parish, Corralitos California. Her long life was a testament to her dedication to family, her steadfast resilience and her kind, nonjudgmental personality. Born in Modesto, California, Margaret was the youngest of 8 siblings who were orphaned when Margaret was only 6 years old. The family, ranging in age from 6 to 18, elected to remain together. They raised each other, led by the oldest, Mary. Margaret came to Los Banos in 1939 when Aunt Mary and her husband Joe Nunes moved there to work for California State Fish and Game. She worked for many years as a medical assistant with the legendary Dr. George Pimentel and, subsequently, other medical professionals and facilities in town. She spent the rest of her life in Los Banos and only recently moved to Santa Cruz County to be near her daughter Jane. Margaret is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Jane and Greg Patricio of Aptos; her loving grandchildren; Jamie Patricio Sanyal (Nick), Lauren Patricio, Norbert Gonsalves, Brandon Gonsalves and 7 great grandchildren. Margaret was preceded in death by her husband Joseph Laurence and daughter Susan. The family would like to thank Drs Vu and Singh as well as the staff and management of both Pacific Coast Manor and Aegis Living for their care and concern for Margaret. She will be laid to rest at San Joaquín Valley National Cemetery in Gustine, California beside her husband Joseph. Any kind acts of charity can be made in her memory to the American Heart Association or to the Second Harvest Food Bank of Santa Cruz.
