Margaret "Meg" Louise Logan

Margaret Louise “Meg” Logan passed away in the early morning hours of March 22, 2023, at Olympia Transitional Care in Lacey, Washington, where she had been a resident for the last six years. She was 93 years young. Margaret was born and raised in Topeka, Kansas, the youngest of four children born to Wilbur and Nina Snook. She graduated Highland Park High School in 1948. She married Ronald Logan in 1949. She was remarried to Ralph Naden in 1979. Both preceded her in death. After living in Hays, Kansas, (10 years) and Wichita, Kansas (4 years), the family moved to Amarillo, Texas in 1966, and Meg lived there until 2013, when she moved to Lacey, Washington, to be close to daughter, Diane. (For a couple of years starting in 1973, she lived in California, where she was the Director of the ultra-exclusive Golden Door Health Spa in Escondido). Margaret was an athlete and fitness buff her entire life. She participated in many sports, including basketball and roller skating in high school, then snow skiing, softball, golf, water skiing, bowling, tennis and racquet ball as an adult. In Amarillo, Meg had two different TV shows, “Exercise With Margaret” and “The Margaret Logan Show.” Meg married Ralph Naden in 1979 and they soon built a three-story home at nearby Lake Tanglewood. Naturally, the house had TWO full kitchens to make entertaining easier. In the mid ‘80s, Meg took up line dancing, and eventually clogging. She never did anything halfway, so she soon started and rode herd on an active group of senior citizens, THE BIG TEXAN DANCERS, which grew to include nearly 100 dancers. For over 20 years, this group not only entertained at many places in and around Amarillo, including the Big Texan Steakhouse, they also traveled around the U.S. and even overseas. All trips were organized, planned, and shepherded by Meg. Wherever they went, they danced: airport boarding areas, train station waiting areas, hotel lobbies; no space was safe. For over 40 years, she was a tireless advocate for Senior Citizens, including starting and managing the Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) in Amarillo, as well as many other organizations devoted to promoting the health and wellbeing of Seniors. Meg was also an avid angler. She loved fishing of all kinds, from catfishing in local creeks and lakes, fishing for bass and crappie at Lake Tanglewood, to Deep Sea fishing trips to Alaska, Mexico and Hawaii, where she landed a 335-pound marlin. Meg always wanted to be in the movies, and she was an “extra” in several that filmed in the Texas panhandle, including appearing on screen in the 1992 Steve Martin movie “Leap of Faith.” (Watch the ending credits to see her and some of the other Big Texan Dancers feeling the love at a revival meeting!) Margaret will be remembered for her zest for life, for her lifelong dedication to physical fitness, for her love of friends and family, and for the World’s Greatest Cinnamon Rolls. She is survived by sons, Larry Logan of Hudson, Florida, and Dean Logan of Amarillo, Texas; daughters, Diane Hester of Lacey, Washington, and Susan Johnson of Greensboro, North Carolina; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two step grandchildren; and three step great-grandchildren; and many, many friends. To Those I Love and Those Who Love Me When I am gone, just release me, let me go. I have so many things to see and do. You mustn't tie yourself to me with tears; Be thankful for our beautiful years. I gave to you my love. You can only guess how much you gave to me in happiness… I thank you for the love you each have shown, but now it’s time I traveled on alone. So grieve a while for me, if grieve you must, then let your grief be comforted by trust. It’s only for a time that we must part, so bless the memories within your heart. I won’t be far away, for life goes on, so if you need me, call and I will come. Though you can’t see or touch me, I’ll be near and if you listen with your heart, you’ll hear all my love around you soft and clear. And then, when you must come this way alone, I’ll greet you with a smile, and say, “Welcome home!”
