Margaret "Muggie" H. Schweiger
November 24th, 1925 - February 28th, 2019
MARGARET H. SCHWEIGER (“Muggie”) age 93 of Jefferson passed away at her home Thursday February 28, 2019, surrounded by her loving family and gracious nurses. She was born on November 24, 1925 in Fon du Lac, WI, daughter of the late Joe and Eileen (Schmid) Heitz. Margaret grew up in Fon du Lac and then attended and graduated Columbia nursing school. She served during World War II as a registered nurse. She married James R. Schweiger of Milwaukee, WI on June 7th, 1946 at St. Jude’s Catholic Church in Milwaukee and they started their family of five children. Margaret enjoyed over sixty wonderful years married to James. She was a devoted wife and mother, committing her life to her family. Margaret was civic-minded, participating in parish and school events throughout her life. She enjoyed numerous close relationships within the community, many of which lasted for decades. Some of the activities she enjoyed most were membership in the Wisconsin Historical Society, participating in her bridge club, and attending her children’s and grandchildren’s activities. She was a voracious reader and closely followed current events. Margaret was also a woman of strong faith. Her devotion to the Lord was an example to all who knew her and she was a long-standing member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. Perhaps most memorable, Margaret had a gracious, loving, non-judgmental nature. She welcomed all into her home with open arms and was caring and kind to everyone. Margaret was also the consummate hostess. Her five children and thirteen grandchildren will enjoy many warm memories of time spent with her at family dinners, at Lake Ripley and playing games together. Margaret is survived by her brother Charles Heitz of Alton, IL and her sister Joleen (August) Hochrein of West Bend, WI. Three daughters; Margaret “Peggy” (Peter) Olivieri of Dallas, PA, Nancy (William) Shorey of Jefferson, WI, Elizabeth “Beth” Schweiger of Jefferson, WI. Two sons; Robert (Suzy) Schweiger of Greensboro, NC, Mark (Patty) Schweiger of Madison, WI. 13 grandchildren; Rebecca (Mark) Koeff, Gretchen (Jeremy) Olson, Emily (Matt) Donnelly, Sarah (Trent) Lange, Margaret (Don) Bunuan, Anna (Atit) Desai, Kathryn (Sean) Wade, Daniel Olivieri, Elizabeth (Michael) Munsell, Theresa (Brian) Ornder, Laura Schweiger, Elias Vareldzis, Ellen Vareldzis. 21 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband James R. Schweiger and her great grandson Matteo. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday March 11, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Jefferson with the Rev. Thomas Coyle officiating. Friends may call at the church on Monday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass. Burial will be in the Parish Cemetery. Memorials may be given in Margaret’s memory to St. John the Baptist Catholic Church or Rainbow Hospice. Her family is grateful to Rainbow Hospice, Sister Maryann Schroedl, the parish nurse and the in-home nurses who provided so much love and support. We thank God for Mom’s life and example, and we will greatly miss her. Online condolences may be expressed at: https://schneidermichaelisfuneralhome.com/
