"South Hadley, Margaret M. Smith, 94, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 19, 2015 at Wingate at South Hadley. Born in Holyoke on July 13, 1920 she was the daughter of William Herbert, the former Deputy Fire Chief of Holyoke, and Mary Herbert. She was a graduate of Holyoke High School and Northampton Business School and worked for many years at the Log Cabin and Westover Officers Club. Margaret was predeceased by her husband Edwin in 1989. She will be deeply missed by her daughter with whom she lived, Susan Sormanti and her husband Rich, along with her grandchildren, Christopher, Ryan and Connor and several nieces and nephews. She was the eldest of nine children who all predeceased her. All services are private and funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Beers and Story South Hadley Funeral Home.
