Margart Kosonen
November 18th, 1943 - January 17th, 2011
Margaret Oseland Kosonen Margaret Kosonen, known to her family and friends as Peggy, died January 17, 2011. Born November 18, 1943 in Kew Gardens, NY, Peggy was the daughter of Orrell Oseland and Kathryn Baisley. She is survived by her incredible daughter Christine Kathryn Kosonen, her son-in-law Tristan Codrescu, and her precious granddaughter Raya Miel Codrescu of Portland, Oregon; her loving and devoted sister and brother-in-law Mary and John Pickitt of Lake Wylie, SC; her very special niece Mary Patricia Farmer and her husband John, and their children Kate and John Christian of Charlotte, NC; her equally special nephew John O. Pickitt, his wife Karen, and their children Kailey and Trevor of Tega Cay, SC. She grew up in Queens and on Long Island, NY. She graduated from Queens Hospital Center School of Nursing in Jamaica, NY in 1965 as a Registered Nurse. She also attended Fairfield University, Fairfield, CT. She was dedicated to her profession as a nurse but had a passion to see the world. Following her heart, she joined Pan American World Airlines in 1966 and flew internationally for 10 years. She returned to nursing when her daughter was born. Peggy derived her greatest joy from her family, her friends, and her life-long love of travel. There were few places in the world she had not visited. A resident of Stamford, CT for 28 years, Peggy moved to Charlotte, NC in 2001 to be close to her family. The Carolinas became her home, and her life was greatly enriched by the new friends she welcomed into her life. Throughout her nursing career, she supported her professional organizations: the Intravenous Nurses Society, the Society of Clinical Research Associates, and the Oncology Nursing Society. She held National Certifications from all 3 organizations. Since 1988 she dedicated herself to Oncology Nursing through direct patient care, clinical research nursing, and as a pharmaceutical sales representative. Since coming to Charlotte, she has been a member of the Blumenthal Cancer Center, Carolinas Medical Center, working as an oncology certified nurse in the Infusion Room. Peggy gave of herself fully regardless the endeavor. She had a wonderful zest and love for life. A celebration of joyful remembrance will be held Friday evening January 28, 2011 at 6:00 PM in the chapel of Hankins and Whittington Funeral Home, 1111 East Blvd. Charlotte NC 28203. The family will receive friends at the funeral home for an hour before the service. The family wishes to express heartfelt thanks to Homewatch Caregivers for their uniquely compassionate and competent staff. Thanks also for the caring professionalism of Dr. Gary Frenette and the staff at CHOA and the kind people at Hospice and Palliative Care of Charlotte. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: Lung Cancer Alliance (PO Box 630972, Baltimore MD 21263); Harmony Hill Retreat Center (7362 East SR 106, Union WA 98592); Hospice & Palliative Care of Charlotte (1420 E 7th ST, Charlotte NC 28204).
