Maria Teresa Gonzalez

Maria Teresa Gonzalez of Hilton Head Island, formerly of Farmingdale, New York, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 10th, 2018. She was born in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic on April 24, 1921 to Gabriel and Altagracia (Quesada) del Rio. Mrs. Gonzalez was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was married to the late Efrain Gonzalez. A talented seamstress and very skilled artist of hooked rugs, she won many awards and commendations through the years for her work. Her love of flowers and gardens was reflected in her artwork and it was sought after by top interior designers. She is survived by daughter Enid Anderson, of Hilton Head Island, and son Efrain J. Gonzalez, of Brooklyn, NY. Also surviving her are grandsons Andrew Hegedus (Kathryn) and Adam Hegedus (Carrie); great-grandchildren Maggie Hegedus, Clara Hegedus, Olivia Hegedus, Grace Hegedus, Charlie Hegedus, Natalie Anderson, Caroline Anderson and Verity Murphy; and a wonderfully supportive extended family that she loved deeply including Lisa Anderson (Robert) and Robert Anderson (Amelia); and her brother Jose del Rio. She was predeceased by her husband of 67 years, Efrain Gonzalez; her beloved daughter Christine Marie; son-in-law William G. Anderson; and by seven of her eight brothers, Gabriel, Tulio, Cesar, Vincent, Gustavo, Sucre and Victor. The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the nurses, aides and staff at The Seabrook including Fraser Health Center and Home Health Care for the warm and caring attention given to Mrs. Gonzalez and her husband through the years. A memorial mass will be held at Holy Family Church on Monday, July 16th at 11 am with a reception to follow at The Seabrook. Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 20th at 11 am in Farmingdale, NY, at St. Kilian Roman Catholic Church, where she and her husband were members for over 40 years. Interment will follow at noon at the Long Island National Cemetery. The Island Funeral Home and Arthur White Funeral Home, Farmingdale, NY, will be handling the arrangements for the family.
