Maria T. Nierman

Maria T. "Boobie" Nierman, age 85, of LaBelle, passed away July 23, 2013 in Lehigh Acres. She was born Jan. 3, 1928 in Warsaw, Poland to Stefan and Janinie (Nyk) Dzbikowicz. Maria was a prisoner of war in World War II. She came to the United States in 1945 as a war bride with her husband at the time who was an 82nd airborne soldier and she taught herself English by going to the movies. Maria had a very interesting life she was a performer with Barnum Bailey Circus as a trapeze artist, a fill in for Betty Hutton in the famous movie "The Greatest Show on Earth" in the 1950's. Maria was also a performer with the Rockettes at Radio City Music Hall in New York City. Maria was owner and operator of her own bar in both Miami and Matlacha. When she moved to Labelle she was a bartender at the Longbranch and the American Legion Post #1130. She is survived by a group of very good friends June Richardson, Janet Butler and a special lady who cared for Maria in her final days Yamila Garcia, her nephew Andrezej Dzbikowicz.
