Marian Davenport
February 13th, 2016
Marian Brant Davenport of Kingstowne, VA died peacefully on Saturday, Feb 13 at the age of 87, attended by her children. Mrs. Davenport taught K-3 children at Springfield Estates Elementary School in Springfield, VA for many years. She retired from teaching in 1985 to follow her passions for bowling (as a league player and secretary of the “Lunch Bunch” at Shirley Bowlamerica in Alexandria, VA), playing bingo (at the Greater Springfield Volunteer Fire Department where she believed she single-handedly helped pay for several ambulances), and travel. She documented many of her trips in epic poetry. Marian Kirkwood Brant was born in 1928 in Columbus, OH, the daughter of Ohio State University professor Arthur Marshall Brant and Phi Beta Kappa homemaker Margaret Beatty Brant. Her brothers John Brant, David Brant, and sister Margaret “Mickey” Brant Adams all preceded her in death. After graduating from Bowling Green State University, she first taught at the Air Force dependent school Évreux-Fauville Air Base near Evreaux, France where she met her future husband, 1st Lt. William G. Davenport of Greenfield, MA. Marian is survived by her daughter Jennifer and her husband Vince, son Bill Davenport and his wife Francesca, two grandchildren, Phineas and Oscar, and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 2 pm on Sunday, March 6 at Grace Presbyterian Church, 7434 Bath St, Springfield, VA. Interment will be in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
