Marian "Myers" A Hopkins
July 28th, 1930 - September 8th, 2006
MARIAN A. (MYERS) HOPKINS Marian A. (Myers) Hopkins, age 76, of Marshall, died at Tendercare of Marshall on Friday, September 08, 2006. Marian was born July 28, 1930 in Battle Creek to Howard B. and Irene (Cave) Myers. After her parents' deaths, Marian and her brother, Jack moved to Marshall to make their home with their aunt and uncle, Kirk and Ruth Neufer, and cousin Butch. Marian attended Marshall High School, where she was an officer in the Girl's Athletic Association. She was a member of the 1948 graduating class. After graduation, she worked at Marshall's Bell Telephone Company office as a switchboard operator. Brother Jack often good naturedly teased her that she "knew every body's business in town!" because of that job! Marian was married on March 3, 1951 in Angola, Indiana to Bernard L. "Pete" Hopkins. He preceded her in death after 44 years of marriage on Oct. 7, 1995. She left Bell Telephone and enrolled in Wright Beauty Academy, graduating as a licensed beautician. Marian first worked for Barbara Lee in her shop, located on Marshall's Main Street behind Bob Jones' barber shop. Later she worked with Bea Lambka at "Bea's Beauty Salon" for many years until buying the business from Bea. Marian renamed the salon "The Beauty Box", which she owned and operated until selling the business to Ann Risner on May 1, 2001. For many years she served her community also as the primary beauty operator at Kempf Funeral Home. She was an avid bingo player at Marshall area games. Marian also enjoyed going to the casino in Mt. Pleasant. She loved the dogs that she and Pete had as pets over the years. Marian and her brother Jack enjoyed a special brother and sister relationship all throughout their lives together. She is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Alice Myers of Marshall, nieces, Karen Myers and Jacquelyn Morrison both of Marshall; great-nieces Jessica (George) Arnold of Marengo and Jamie Morrison and Elizabeth Morrison of Marshall; and great-nephew Aaron Newsome, and a great-great-niece, Lily Arnold; her uncle and father, Kirk Neufer and cousin and brother, Albert J. "Butch " Neufer both of Marshall. She was also preceded in death by her parents, and her aunt and mother, Ruth Neufer. Friends may call at Craig K. Kempf Funeral Home on Monday 9AM to 9PM, where family will be present to greet friends and share memories from 6PM to 8PM. Funeral services celebrating her life will be held at Kempf Funeral Home on Tuesday at 11AM. Interment will follow in Oakridge Cemetery. The family suggests that friends who wish direct memorial contributions to Tendercare Resident Council or American Lung Association. Assistance with memorials is available at Kempf Funeral Home.
