Marianne Elfont Effron
January 17th, 1931 - January 17th, 2016
Marianne Elfont Effron, aged 84, died peacefully January 17, 2016 at her home in Santa Barbara, CA. Her beloved husband of 65 years, Philip, was (as always) at her side. Marianne was born January 31, 1931, in Des Moines, IA, the daughter of Millicent and Louis Elfont and grew up in Weirton, WV. Above all else, Marianne cherished family values and the company of her close circle of friends. Marianne was active in the local Jewish community throughout her life. Marianne met Philip at West Virginia University and they married November 23, 1950. They resided in Charleston, WV for 14 years, moved to Greenville, SC in 1967 where they lived for 47 years, before moving to Santa Barbara in 2013. In addition to raising their three children, Marianne worked full time in the fashion industry. All who knew Marianne admired her grace, elegance, impeccable manners and exceptional "southern charm" that won over everyone's hearts. She treated all with dignity and respect, regardless of background, lifestyle choice or faith. She loved to entertain, was an amazing baker and kept her famous cheesecake recipe (distributed to select restaurants) secret to all but her two daughters-in-law. Marianne is survived by husband Philip, daughter Robin Carlin, sons Marc Effron and Andrew Effron and her six beloved grandchildren. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, January 21, 11:30am at the Santa Barbara Cemetery, followed by an afternoon reception.
