Marie E. Catanzaro
March 27th, 1926 - December 2nd, 2010
Mrs. Marie E. Catanzaro, age 84, of Gloversville, died unexpectedly on Thursday evening, December 2, 2010 at Nathan Littauer Hospital, Gloversville. She was born March 27, 1926 in Gloversville, the daughter of the late Charles Gardiner and Teresa Clemente Gardiner. Following graduation from High School and during World War II, Marie attending the Cadet Nurses Training Class at Nathan Littauer Hospital. She then served for one year in the Cadet Corps. She later became a Glove Inspector and was employed by Mario Papa & Sons as well as other glove shops in Gloversville. Marie's interests have included: cooking, spending time with her family, reminiscing fond memories of the camp on Mayfield Lake with her husband Phil, playing cards, dancing and discussing politics. She enjoyed talking about her trips to Las Vegas, Puerto Rico, Cuba, Italy and Switzerland. On May 29, 1948 Marie was married to Philip V. Catanzaro who survives. Other survivors include: two children, Charles M. Catanzaro Cheryl and Carol Wintermute Michael of Gloversville; four grandchildren, Richard Alkinburgh, Robert Alkinburgh Kate, Lisa Lavery C.J. and Diane Solmo Joe; three great-grandchildren, Madison, Taylor and Brigitte. Marie also leaves behind her faithful companion Muffin the cat. The family will receive relatives and friends from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, December 5 at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St; Gloversville, where a funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday. Cremation will take place at Park View Crematorium, Schenectady. Memorial contributions may be made to the James A. Brennan Memorial Humane Society, 437 Nine Mile Tree Road, Gloversville, NY 12078 or to St. Jude's Research Hospital, P.O. Box 3704, Memphis, TN 38103.
