Marie Smith Coble
April 24th, 1923 - January 1st, 2018
Marie Smith Coble passed away peacefully January 1, 2018, after 94 years of a long and healthy life. She valued most her faith, family, and friends. Growing up on the family farm in Harnett County, NC, she learned to make everything from meals to clothes to home furnishings to arts and crafts. She carried these talents with her to Woman's College (now UNC-G) where she majored in home economics and taught students in the Stanly County schools. Kindness and generosity were part of her daily life. She gave her time, money, and talents to others when needed or just to make their day a little brighter. Quick to help others, she often kept her own needs quietly to herself. Marie found joy and happiness in the lives of her children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and their children. Birthdays and important events in the lives of family and friends were always remembered with a phone call, a note, or in person. Even when she was no longer able to write notes, she asked her daughter to send cards or call people she wanted to remember. Her parents were Adna and Earlie Smith. Her brother, Connell, died in Nigeria while serving in the mission field. Her brothers are Truman and Tillman Smith. Sisters-in-law are Eunice Bland, Gwen Smith, and the late Irene Smith. Her daughters, Cynthia Kupres and Elaine Coble, are missing their mom but are so grateful for the life they had with her. Her grandchildren, Alexandra and Scott Kupres, were the center of her heart. She was married to the late Warren Lee Coble. She loved and cherished his family including the late Mack Coble, Margaret Coble, and Pat Coble. John Mack Coble, Charles Coble, Marshall Coble, Carol Lander, and their families were so special to her and always in her thoughts. Her life in faith began at Chalybeate Springs Baptist Church (Fuquay Varina), moved to First Baptist Church (Albemarle), and then to St John's Baptist Church (Charlotte) in 1991. May her gentle spirit live on in all of us. Donations in Marie's memory may be made to St. John's Baptist Church, 300 Hawthorne Lane, Charlotte, NC 28204.
