Marie E Cook
July 13th, 1928 - November 14th, 2015
On November 14, 2015 Marie Elizabeth Cook, 87, of Las Vegas, Nevada, left this earth to be with Our Lord Jesus Christ. She was born in Jackson Heights, New York on July 13, 1928 to Frank and Elizabeth Hiel. She is survived by her husband John Cook, her four children and spouses, her two sisters and spouses, five grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. Marie enjoyed traveling and domestically was able to visit many of the states, and internationally travelled to many European countries. She was an incredible patriot who was able to raise children and work full time outside the home all while serving her community. For over 50 years Marie served and supported our military heroes and families through her dedication to the American Legion Auxiliary. Through her work, scholarships were funded, veteran's concerns were brought to the attention of those in government, children and youth were provided for, and terminally ill children were given moments of joy through music. She would tell you herself that she was just an ordinary person doing what was right. This ordinary woman will not be read about in history books, but she touched many, many lives in extraordinary ways and where it counts most; in the hearts of other ordinary folks she will be forever remembered. She had a big smile and an even bigger heart. She will be missed. As befitting a woman who touched many lives, memorial services will be conducted for her in both New York and in Nevada. In New York, the memorial will take place on November 20, 2015 at St. Barnabas Church in Bellmore, NY at 10 am. The memorial service in Nevada will be held on Tuesday, December 1st at 10 am at the Nevada State Veteran's Cemetery in Boulder City, Nevada. The family requests no flower tributes, but memorial donations may be sent to any of these organizations through their websites: Songs of Love Foundation Wounded Warrior Project.
