Marie Lieselotte Wolter (nee Bauer), 99, a resident of Las Vegas since 2001 passed away Wednesday, January 20, 2016. Marie was born March 5, 1916 in Saalfeld, Germany to Elise Helene Marie Bauer (nee Fuchs) and Max Kurt Hermann Bauer. Marie lost her mother when she was only three, and was raised by her paternal grandparents. Her father remarried and came to the United States in 1925. Marie followed, arriving in Pittsburgh, PA in 1933. She married, Arthur Heinrich Wolter, originally from Bremen, Germany, on July 11, 1938. Daughter, Rosemarie Erika, was born in 1940 and son, Erik Volkmar, in 1944. The family moved to Chicago in 1945. Marie was a-stay-at-home mom until Rosemarie was twelve, although she was very active with the Cub Scouts and the Girl Scouts. For twenty-nine years, Marie worked as a kindergarten teacher at the JFH Learning Center in Chicago. Marie trained as a teacher in Germany at the “Froebel Institute”. When Marie answered an ad to help out in the kindergarten job and they learned she attended “Froebel” they were elated and offered her the job. At Marie’s retirement party, the owner of the school opened her party with, “Marie came to help out in kindergarten and by noon I offered her a job with a raise and she stayed twenty-nine years.” In 2001, Marie moved to the retirement community of Siena in Las Vegas so she could be close to her daughter Rosemarie. In 2010, she moved to Acacia Springs Assisted Living where she made many friends. Marie was predeceased by her husband, Arthur, and daughter, Rosemarie Greczek. Marie is survived by her son Erik Volkmar Wolter and his wife Nancy Heidrich of Boulder, Colorado; her grandchildren Heidi Elizabeth Raudenbush and her husband Aaron Raudenbush of Ft. Wayne, Indiana; Kai Erik Wolter of Santa Fe, New Mexico; Kristin Marie Canfield and her husband Joshua Canfield of Memphis, Tennessee; Lisa Fricke and her husband James of West Chester, Ohio, Ronald Stemler and his wife Margaret of Elgin, Illinois; and Karen O’Brien and her husband Robert Nies of Carpentersville, Illinois; eight great grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren. Graveside services will be held at Acacia Park Cemetery in Chicago, Illinois on March 5, 2016.
