Marilyn Anne Burton
December 19th, 1941 - July 27th, 2023
Marilyn Anne Burton passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 27, 2023 in Melbourne Florida. Marilyn was born on December 19, 1941 in Yonkers, NY to Gerhardt and Helen (Cortright) Mellor. Marilyn grew up in Yonkers, graduating from Sacred Heart High School in 1959 and the Cochrane School of Nursing at St. John’s Riverside Hospital in 1962. Marilyn married her high school sweetheart, Warren Burton, on August 4, 1962. They were an Air Force family for the first 8 years of their 61-year marriage, stationed at Westover Air Force Base in Massachusetts, Clark Air Force Base in the Philippines, and Dover Air Force Base. During Warren’s civilian career they crossed the country, raising their family in Delaware, Connecticut, Indiana, North Carolina, and finally Denver, Colorado. They eventually retired to Naples, FL before relocating the Melbourne, FL in 2001. Marilyn was a devoted mother to her 3 children and the adored Nonnie of 3 grandchildren and her 4 “great grans”. While her love of friends ran deep, her true passion was her growing family. Marilyn practiced as a Registered Nurse for many years. She was a member of the first critical care nurse cohort in Dover, DE and eventually focused her nursing career on her love of older adults by working for years in long-term care. After retiring, Marilyn utilized her nursing skills as a 19-year volunteer in the Health First Health Plans Medical Management department, donating over 1600 hours. Like her father, Marilyn was an avid gardener. She and her husband, Warren, shared in the caretaking of the “Mary Garden” at Ascension Catholic Church for many years, bringing much happiness to the many people who visit this special area. Marilyn additionally loved to travel with her husband, played competitive senior tennis, and scored two holes-in-one during her golf adventures. Marilyn was the beloved wife of Warren Burton and mother to Jacqueline Burton LaManna and her husband Anthony of Melbourne, FL; Barbara Burton of Denver, CO; and Michael Burton of Boulder, CO. She was the much-loved grandmother of Elizabeth LaManna O’Neall and her husband John of Oviedo, FL; Daniel LaManna and his wife, Sara of Viera, FL; and Spencer Gartner of Denver, CO. Her cherished great-grandchildren were David and Jack O’Neall and Andrew and Matthew LaManna. Marilyn’s loving heart and one-of-a-kind sense of humor will be forever missed. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in Marilyn’s memory on Saturday, August 12th, 2023 at 11am at Ascension Catholic Church in Melbourne Florida.
