Marilyn Newell

May 11th, 1934 - July 22nd, 2024

Marilyn Newell of Aberdeen passed away July 22, 2024; she was 90 years old. She was born in Duluth MN. Family moved to the Pacific Northwest where she graduated from Weatherwax High school and received her Associates Degree from Grays Harbor college. She married Grant Newell and recently celebrated their 70th year anniversary. He survives her in Olympia WA.

Marilyn was a woman of devotion; devoted to her family, her source of greatest joy, and to her church of more than 60 years, Central Park United Methodist Church, where she was the pianist and organist for most of that time. Many of her dearest friendships were formed from there.

In the past few years, as Alzheimer’s took its toll, some of the memories she held onto the longest were precious stories of the many antics of her little grandsons, many stories about her brother Wayne and the fun times she had with him and Wayne’s wife Linda, camping trips to Yellowstone, celebrating anniversaries in Cannon Beach Oregon, trips to Minnesota through the years to see family, and the many good times living in Central Park. But, what brought her the biggest smiles was when she knew her husband of 70 years was right there in his chair next to her.

Marilyn will be remembered for the example she gave all of us of what it means to be a woman of faith, to live a life of sacrifice and to find joy in the simplest of pleasures. She was a wonderful mom, grandma, sister, friend, and wife. Her family and friends miss her deeply, but are so excited for her knowing she is resting in the arms of the Lord!

In addition to her husband, she is survived by 2 of her 3 children, Deborah Burns, husband Mike, Gary Newell, wife Cindy, grandsons and their wives, Gary Michael and Sarah, Cole and Angela, Trenton and Katie, Camron and Leah, and Connor and Megan ; great grandchildren , Hadley, Clara, Zeke, Kensey, Hannah, Rudy, Luna, Jamie and Carter & (one on the way).

The Family would like to extend our gratitude & thankfulness to Fieldstone Communities Cooper Point for their loving care and attention that was provided. In lieu of flowers, we ask that any contributions be sent to Fieldstone Communities Cooper Point in Marilyn Newell’s name to the CAF Fund (Cascadia Assistance Fund for Fieldstone Communities).
