Marilyn Jessie O'Hara
August 13th, 1930 - December 16th, 2016
August 13, 1930 - December 16, 2016 Marilyn Jessie O'Hara was born August 13, 1930 in Yuba City, CA. She graduated from Yuba City High School and attended Yuba College, receiving an A.A. degree. She was a volunteer for many years at St. Isadore's school serving in various capacities, a 4H leader for over 10 years, and a "Pink Lady" at Fremont Hospital (Rocking the newborn babies). She met her husband Thomas Edward O'Hara at a dance in Marysville; she was 16, he was 18. They had a long-distance relationship that culminated in marriage in 1953, after Tom discharged from the U.S. Navy and completed his degree in Pharmaceutical Science at Idaho State University Pocatello. Marilyn and Tom survived the 1955 Christmas Eve where Marilyn learned an important lesson; she had received a new coat for Christmas, but left it hanging in a closet, not wanting to wear it for fear it might get dirty. The couple lost everything in that disaster, but stayed and rebuilt along with their neighbors on Clinton Street. Marilyn loved children, and had two daughters, Margaret Jessica and Julia Anne, and one son Timothy Brendan. Marilyn had two babies that lived for only a few days, Timothy David and Mary Elizabeth. After the death of her husband, Marilyn partnered with a neighbor at a daycare/after school program; hundreds of children went through those doors, where Marilyn gave them love and education. In her later years, Marilyn and Tim would make weekly excursions to Sam's Club, Wal-Mart (which she affectionately called "Wally World") and In and Out Burger. She loved to go shopping. Marilyn died December 16, 2016 at home, where she wanted to be. She loved visitors, and was a generous and gracious hostess to all who stopped by. She made a positive impression on all who met her and will never be forgotten by those who knew her. Marilyn will be laid to rest at Sutter Cemetery on December 30 at 1:00 p.m., with Chaplain Chris Madsen of Sutter Care at Home officiating.
