Mrs. Marion B. Betz of Amsterdam, New York died peacefully on Sunday, August 30, 2015 with her loving family by her side at St Mary's Hospital. She was 94. A lifelong area resident, Marion was born on April 29, 1921 to Warren and Emily Rust Mead. She was a 1937 graduate of the former Wilbur H. Lynch High School and a 1938 graduate of the Amsterdam School of Commerce. Marion was employed by Mohasco Industries and several law offices in the community prior to her marriage. On April 12, 1941 she was united in marriage to John G. Betz, Jr. Together for 55 years, they raised a family and owned and operated Betz Funeral Home from 1945 until 1990; which is now known as Betz, Rossi, Bellinger & Stewart Family Funeral Home at the original location of 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam. Marion continued her service to the organization assisting in several capacities until her retirement in 2005 at the age of 85. Marion was a lifetime devoted member of the St. Luke's Evangelical Lutheran Church and a member of the Faithful Followers Bible Study. Also devoted to her community she was a former member of the Amsterdam Memorial Hospital Auxiliary; the Port Jackson Seniors; and a lifetime member of the Order of the Eastern Star #208. Survivors include her two sons, David W. Betz and his wife Bonnie of Sarasota, FL and John M. "Jack" Betz and his wife Debra and Marion's caregiver of Fultonville, NY; her daughter in law, Marilyn Betz of Fort Johnson, NY; one brother, Hon. James M. Mead of the Town of Florida, NY; four grandchildren, Valerie (Scott) Everson and their children Sean, Steven, Scott and Sierra of Broadalbin, NY; Jessica Betz and her children Melody and Samuel of Amsterdam, NY; Adam (Vanessa) Betz and their children Mason John and Brooklyn Robyn of Wesley Chapel, FL; Jason (Andrea) Betz of Watervliet, NY; two step grandchildren, Misty (Damien) Thomas and their children Jordyn, Damien and Mekhi of Schenectady, NY; and Peter (Sara) Seames IV and their children Owen and Bentley of West Paris, ME; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband, John G. in 1996; sons, Richard in 2012 and Gary in 1944; and her siblings Dr. Warren Mead and Helen Kruger. Over the years, Marion enjoyed spending time with her family and friends at their summer home on Galway Lake. She always enjoyed cooking and baking for family during the holidays; and vacationing to Siesta Key, Florida and cruising to many destinations. Above all she loved her family, friends, church and community. She was a Lady in every sense of the word. She will be sadly missed by those who loved her and the lives she touched. Funeral services will commence on Friday, September 4, 2015 at 11 o'clock at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home with the Rev. O. Robert DeMartinis and the Rev. Dr. John Califano co-officiating. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited and may call from 4 until 7p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home; where the Order of the Eastern Star will meet at 6p.m. for their beloved sister. Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to St. Luke's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 24 Pine Street, Amsterdam, NY 12010 or Community Hospice of Amsterdam, 246 Manny's Corner Road, Amsterdam, NY 12010.
