Marion R. Smith
January 3rd, 1919 - April 12th, 2014
Marion R. Smith, 95 of Post Avenue, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, April 12, 2014, with her loving family at her bed side. Born January 3, 1919 in Amsterdam, New York, she was the daughter of the late Roy P. and Jean Parry Runkle. She was a lifelong Tribes Hill resident and was a graduate of the Wilbur H. Lynch High School and later she graduated from Syracuse University in 1939 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree. Marion was employed as a case worker for the Montgomery County Department of Social Services in Fonda retiring in 1974. For many years she loved traveling and camping with her late husband Felix. Marion was an excellent homemaker and enjoyed taking care of her home and her floral garden. Marion was a devoted member of the Tribes Hill Presbyterian Church and served at one time as a Sunday school teacher. She was also member of Alpha XI Delta Sorority of Syracuse University; Life Member of PTA; American Cancer Society and was very active with the St. Mary's Hospital Reach for Recovery program. On June 1, 1946 she married Felix C. Smith who passed away in November 24, 2007. Survivors include her two daughters, Susan Smith of Tribes Hill and Nancy Cole and her husband Ed of Gloversville; two grandchildren Pamela Cole of Johnstown and Jeffrey Cole and his wife Jennifer of Castleton, NY; four great grandchildren, Tyler LaFond, Alicia Rivers, Brady Cole and Casey Cole. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday April 15, 2014 at 11:00 am at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam with the Rev. Larry Greenwold officiating. Interment will follow at the Pine Grove Cemetery in Tribes Hill. It was Marion's request there be no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made in Marion's name to the Tribes Hill Presbyterian Church, PO Box 396, Tribes Hill, NY 12177 or to the Community Hospice of Amsterdam, 246 Manny's Corner Road, Amsterdam, NY 12010.
