Marjorie S Barstow
October 17th, 1921 - March 22nd, 2017
"Hadley - Marjorie S. (Shipman) Barstow, 95, of Barstow Lane, died on March 22, 2017. She was born October 17, 1921 in Holyoke, MA, daughter of Raymond and Gladys (Duffy) Shipman. A lifelong resident of Hadley, she married her neighbor Nelson Barstow and lived at Barstow Longview Dairy Farm. She was an active member of the First Congregational Church of Hadley and sang in the choir for 82 years. She headed up many church suppers and continued to help at them until a few years ago. Marjorie was a founding member of the Hadley Mother's Club. She volunteered at Cooley Dickinson Hospital Coffee Shop for many years. Marjorie was known for her baking, especially her apple pies and chocolate chip cookies which she always shared with family and friends. She also knitted many mittens and sweaters for family and friends. She was an avid bridge player, enjoyed crossword and jigsaw puzzles and dominoes. She was a very caring person, who enjoyed helping others and visiting friends at nursing homes. She will be deeply missed by her five children, Judith Stone of Florence, Daniel Barstow (Martha) of Portland, OR, James Barstow (Lori) of Hadley, Steven Barstow (Ann) of Hadley, and David Barstow of Hadley. She also leaves 14 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Marjorie was preceded in death by her husband, Nelson in 2000, siblings Donald Shipman and Marion Purdy, and grandchildren, Melissa Barstow and Walter Stone. A Funeral service will be held on Friday, March 31st at 10:00 a.m. at the First Congregational Church in Hadley. Burial will follow at Hockanum Cemetery. Calling hours will be Thursday from 4:00-7:00 p.m at the Beers and Story South Hadley Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Congregational Church of Hadley, 102 Middle St., Hadley, MA 01035. For more information please visit, www.beersandstory.com."
