Memorial

Mark Buckley Federal, 63, of Charlotte, died peacefully at home on Thursday, February 16, 2023 with his wife and daughters by his side after a valiant 15 month battle with glioblastoma. Born in Columbus, Georgia on October 27, 1959, Mark was the youngest child of the late Robert Joseph Keegan and Mary Virginia Buckley Federal who were raised in Charlotte. His family moved back to Charlotte in 1970. Mark graduated from Myers Park High School in 1977. Mark was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. One of Mark's greatest passions was his love for the game of golf, which he inherited from his father. They spent many years playing together at Myers Park Country Club. He attended PGA business school and worked in various jobs within the golfing industry for many years where he made lifelong friendships. Mark's love for music began at a young age working with local music venues and then managing his brothers' band the Federal Bureau of Rock'n'Roll. His passion for live music was a constant in his life and was such a driving force behind so many friendships. Mark was a huge Panthers fan and enjoyed being a member of the Roaring Riot and the community he and Shelley built with their surrounding PSL seat-mates at games. Mark's love for family sparked the idea to celebrate his Irish heritage with a family reunion and float in the St. Patrick's Day parade. This idea beautifully evolved into a treasured annual event for family and friends from all over to gather. There was nothing more important to Mark than people. He always said "it's the people, not the things that matter most." That philosophy was evident each time he walked in any room in Charlotte, where he would inevitably see someone he knew and greet them with his wonderful infectious smile. His major passions in life were family, music and golf and through these he was able to cultivate meaningful relationships with so many. Anyone who knew him loved him and the thousands of wonderful relationships he has created will ensure his memory lives on forever. Mark is survived by his wife Shelley, daughters Ashley Federal Bailey (Cole) and Gina Weise (Dylan); granddaughter Lane Weise; brothers R. Keegan Federal Jr. (Rebecca), Michael Federal (Pam Navey), and Joseph Lennox Federal (Jill); sisters Ann Federal, Molly Federal, Kathleen Finnigan (Barry), Marian Phillips (Steve), and Joan Keane (Pat); as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is also survived by his first wife, Lori Federal. The family will receive friends on Saturday, February 18th from 6:00 to 8:30 PM at Tribute and Tallent Funeral Home, 1937 N Sharon Amity Rd. 28205. A memorial service will be offered on Sunday at St. Peter's Catholic Church at 2:00 PM, 507 S Tyron St. 28202. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Holy Angels, P.O. Box 710, Belmont, NC 28012-0710, or online at www.holyangelsnc.org.
