Mark Wayne Hogg
July 28th, 1956 - August 6th, 2024
Mark Wayne Hogg, age 68, departed this life on Tuesday, August 6, 2024 at Baptist Health in Louisville, Kentucky.
Born on July 28, 1956, in Versailles, Ky., he was the son of Doris Groves Hogg and the late Edward E. Hogg. Mark spent his younger years growing up in Houston, Texas with his family before returning to Kentucky. He made many life-long friends in Texas and loved going to the beach.
Mark had an infectious laugh and personality to go with it. He never met a stranger and loved talking with family, friends, and everyone he met. Mark was an avid outdoorsman and loved hunting.
Since he was 11 years old Mark wanted to be in the Guinness Book of World Records. In 1998 he accomplished that goal by eating the most night crawlers in 30 seconds on national television. A brief stint in the U.S. Army and survival training in the jungles of Panama eating insects and worms paid off. He became known as the “Worm Man” and kept breaking his own record while traveling the globe promoting himself and his “gross” stunt. He appeared in numerous television shows, fairs and events. Mark relished in the celebrity status.
Mark loved spending time with his youngest daughter, Diana, by taking her to visit family and friends and to the beach in Florida as often as he could until his health wouldn’t let him anymore. His faithful companions the last few years were his beloved German Shepherds, Mollie and Booker. He chose cremation with the request his ashes be scattered into the sea.
Mark is survived by his mother: Doris Groves Hogg of Versailles; two daughters: Diana Maye Hogg of Glasgow, Trina Bentley of Shelbyville; two sisters: Jackie (Randy) Brackett of Versailles and Judi Hogg of Frankfort; and one brother, Ed (Keela) Hogg of Versailles; two grandchildren; two nephews : Jacob Brackett of Lexington , Devin Thompson of Lawrenceburg, and four nieces; Shannon LeMaster Hickerson of Nokomis, FL, Rachel (Curt) Hogg Graham, Savannah Hogg and Jessica McGohon all of Versailles. He also leaves behind two very close friends, Bill Ward of Shelbyville and Raleigh “Bubba” Trotter of Houston, TX.
A gathering to remember Mark will be held on Saturday, August 17, 2024 from 1 to 4 pm est at Clark Legacy Center 3000 Versailles Road Frankfort, Kentucky 40601.
