Mark Wagoner

Mark Wagoner passed from this life in his Olympia, Washington, home surrounded by family on May 19, 2014. He was the third of the seven children of Jack and Margaret Wagoner (Cate, Jack, Mark, Meg, Julia, Bruce, and Steve!). Born in Germany where Mark’s father was stationed in the Army, his family soon moved to Wisconsin, where Mark had fond memories of himself and the other kids kicking their lunch boxes across the playground. He eventually was raised in Dayton, Ohio, and became an avid swimmer while attending countless swim programs in the community, as well as belonging to the high school swim team. He loved to swim. Mark graduated from Archbishop Alter High school and enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving as a Navy Seal before an honorable discharge in 1972. He met his wife, Mary, while swimming at Menlo Park Burgess Memorial Pool in California, and the couple eventually moved to Olympia, Washington, where they enjoyed raising their three daughters. Mark worked as an architectural and structural drafter and was able to have the opportunity to be a part of many exciting projects in and around southwest Washington. He believed that you should never stop learning. His love for science and music and his passion for reading are great gifts passed on to his children and grandchildren Mark is survived by his wife of 30 years, Mary; his daughters and sons-in-law, Julia and Brian, Megan and Liam, Amy and Andrew; grandchildren, Tobin, Daniel, Levi and Baby Boy Walsh (who will soon be arriving in June); all his siblings; and countless cousins, nieces and nephews. The family will have a private gathering in his honor by the ocean at his request. In lieu of flowers or donations, please just be kind to others or help someone stuck in the snow on the side of the road since there will be one less Good Samaritan among us. Our greatest thanks to Jesus who followed Mark all of his life and never let him go so that he would have grace and peace forever.
