June 27th, 1936 - June 5th, 2021
Mrs. Marlene A. Augustine, 84, of Fonda, NY, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday morning June 5, 2021 with her loving family at her side. Born in Amsterdam, NY on June 27, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Carmen and Mary Lippie Oliver. She was a lifelong area resident and a 1954 graduate of the former Fonda High School. On July 26, 1958, she married Armand J. Augustine. They were married for 62 years until his passing on February 25, 2020. Marlene was employed in her early years at various glove manufacturers in Fonda and Fultonville. After staying home to raise her children, she later worked for over 20 years at the Fonda-Fultonville Central School. Marlene was a communicant of St. Cecilia’s Roman Catholic Church in Fonda, She was very active in the church and enjoyed working at Bingo for many years. She and her husband also enjoyed attending Mass at the St. Kateri Shrine in Fonda. She was a member of the Iroquois Seniors in Tribes Hill, and the Glen-Mohawk Seniors in Fonda. She was the Trip Chairman for several years, and enjoyed planning and traveling with her husband and friends on numerous outings. She was a member of The Catholic Daughters of America. Marlene and her husband, “Augie” were dedicated FFCS sports fans and avid New York Yankee and Duke Blue Devil fans. Marlene loved all kinds of craft projects and was the creator of many handmade quilts, of which many were crafted with love for her family and friends. In addition to her husband, Marlene is survived by her loving children, Michael (Amy) Augustine of Fultonville, NY and Lisa Augustine (Edward Kosinski) of Fonda, NY, a sister, D. Dorine Dimond of Fonda, NY and a brother, Carmen (Barbara) Oliver of Seaford, NY, cherished grandchildren, Megan (Andy) Sanders, James (Jennifer) Keller, and John Keller (Meaghan Dado), four great-grandchildren, Grant, Finley, and Charlotte Sanders and Juliette Keller. Several nieces, nephews and cousins. Marlene was predeceased by sisters, Dorothy Barker and A. Frances Dybas, her nieces Lynn Marie Oliver, Francine (Dimond) Wyzomirski and nephew, Mark Nuccio. She is also predeceased by several sisters and brothers-in-law. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Marlene’s caregivers, Sheree Kretser, Wanda Holt, Jessica Marotta, Kaitlin Kretser, Diana Lozier, and Lisa Bergh for their care, compassion and love. Also, to long time family friend Michele Furnare, who has delivered the sacrament of communion to both Marlene and Augie for the duration while they were homebound, and to Dr. George Weis for his unwavering personal and dedicated service to ensure both Marlene and Augie were always provided medical care at all times. A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, June 10, 2021 at 11:30 am at St. Cecilia’s Roman Catholic Church, 26 Broadway, Fonda, NY with Father Christopher Welch as celebrant. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, 296 Martin Road, Fonda, NY. The family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday June 9, 2021 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at the Jackson & Betz Funeral Home, 15 Main Street, Fultonville, NY 12072. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the National Shrine of St. Kateri Tekakwitha, 3636 State Highway 5, Fonda, NY 12068 or to St. Cecilia’s Roman Catholic Church, 26 Broadway, Fonda, NY 12068.
