Martha Grewohl

Martha Grewohl died peacefully, five days after celebrating her 99th birthday with her family. Our hearts are heavy but filled with joy as she is now in the arms of her heavenly Father. Martha lived her life gracefully, full of zeal and determination even as she faced the challenges of aging in her later years. A resident of Wesley House in La Selva Beach at the time of her passing. She was born July 29, 1918 in Neillesville, Wisconsin. She grew up in Pittsville, Wisconsin and was a graduate of Marshfield High School, Class of 1937. In her younger years she worked as a medical assistant at the Marshfield Clinic. She later moved to California first to Santa Clara and later to Santa Cruz where she worked as a pharmacy assistant at the Westside Pharmacy. Martha was devoted to her family. She enjoyed family events, gardening and taking long walks. She was well known in the Santa Cruz Harbor area as she took her daily walks from her home on Brommer Street to Twin Lakes Beach. She was also very fond of her cat, Tabby. Martha was a member of Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church. She enjoyed attending exercise classes and luncheons at Louden Nelson Senior Center. She is survived by her sons, Richard Grewohl and his wife Joan and Doug Grewohl and his wife Lisa; two sisters, Harriet Torreano and Donna Adair. She is also survived by six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. She was preceded in the death by her husband, Raymond; son, James and sister, Fran Herman. Services will be held at Benito & Azzaro Pacific Gardens Chapel, 1050 Cayuga St., Santa Cruz, CA on Saturday August 26, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. A reception will follow at the Grewohl Family home.
