Martin "Marty" Frank Battaglia, 76, of Gloversville passed away peacefully on Monday, October 3, 2016 at St. Mary's Hospital, Amsterdam after a long illness. Born October 7, 1939 in Amsterdam, New York, he was the son of the late Frank Steven and Antoinette Faccioli Battaglia. Marty was a graduate of Wilbur Lynch High School in Amsterdam. Following High School he went on to serve his country during Vietnam in the Marine Corps. Marty was a gifted mechanic and even from a young age like to take things apart to see how they worked and reassemble them from memory. He worked for Sam's Harbor in Mayfield as a boat mechanic, Milligan & Higgins in Johnstown as a crane operator and later at Doug's Auto Advantage in Mayfield as a mechanic. Marty was always a hard worker and will be sadly missed by his family and friends. Survivors include his sons Kevin Battaglia, Keith Battaglia and Brian Battaglia; daughter Ellen Battaglia; brother Michael Battaglia and sister Virginia Kaisand. Marty is also survived by several grandchildren. A graveside service to celebrate Marty's life will take place on Thursday, October 13, 2016 11 A.M. at St. Michael's Cemetery, Amsterdam with the Rev. Dr. RW Williams officiating. At Marty's request there will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in Marty's memory to Mountain Valley Hospice, 108 Steele Avenue, Gloversville, NY 12078.
