Martin Foy Foy Wallace Martin 1919-2016 Foy Wallace Martin was born in Summerville, OK on May 16,1919, the first son of Henry and Bonnie Martin. He died at home on December 15th, 2016 after a short illness. He is survive by his wife of 76 years, Julia Tilton Martin, daughter Joanne Stevenson, and sons Melvin and his wife Roberta, Lesley and his wife Bua, and Kenneth and his wife Sandy. He is survived by two sisters, June Iveans and Jean Brence. Two brothers, Bob and Joe Ben Martin, and four sisters, Hope House, Ted McDonald, Wanda Wilkson and Ruth Martin, proceeded him in death. He is survived by 8 granddaughters and 6 grandsons, 14 great-granddaughters and 17 great-grandsons. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. In 1923 the Martin family moved to Orange County, CA where they lived until 1935 when they moved to Coburg, OR. Foy started his sheet metal apprenticeship in 1939 and married Julia Tilton on July 6, 1940. He enlisted in the US Navy in 1943 and worked as a sheet metal worker and supervisor in the shipyards in Bermerton, WA. After WWII, they moved back to Springfield, OR and Foy resumed his work in the sheet metal trade. In 1951 the family moved to a 280 acre farm in Yoncalla, OR and Foy started logging and eventually had his own small mill. Julia drove the caterpillar for him and Mel set chokers in his small family enterprise. In 1956 the family moved to Boise, ID and Foy resumed his career in the sheet metal trade. Several years later the family returned to Springfield, OR. In 1964 Foy Martin Sheet Metal was opened in Springfield, OR. He was able to retire in 1978. For the next 13 years Foy and Julia spend their winters ins Guaymas, Mexico where he learned to speak fluent Spanish and was active in the Church of Christ. Their summers were spent on their boat, the Miss Julia II, where they commercial salmon fished out of Winchester Bay, OR. They loved to travel and made many trips around the US and visited almost every state. They traveled to Israel, Egypt and made two trips to Thailand. Foy and Julia also lived in Redmond, OR where Foy enjoyed hunting and learned the art of making and decorating cakes for birthdays and weddings for friends. Foy was a member of the Church of Christ and served for many years as an elder and teacher in sever different congregations in Oregon and Idaho.
