Martin Kelly Grantz

Obituary Martin Kelly Grantz, 58, passed away unexpectedly on December 11, 2021. Marty was born on February 26, 1963, to Louetta and William Grantz, in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He grew up in Colorado Springs as the youngest of the ten Grantz children. Marty graduated from Wasson High School where he was a three-sport athlete. He attended Southwest Texas State and The University of Northern Colorado on baseball scholarships. He finished his college degree in journalism at the University of Colorado Springs, Colorado. He was a well-respected sportswriter for The Gazette covering high school sports all over the state. Marty was the first and only official scorer for the Colorado Springs Sky Sox and most recently The Vibes. He was a talented writer and a dedicated coach. After leaving the Gazette, he worked at Cottonwood Creek Recreation Center and Challenger Learning Center. On January 21, 1995, he married Danette (Cunico) Grantz and discovered a new passion in life. He is survived by his wife Danette (of 26 years) and two sons, Nick (24) and Will (18). Martys love for his wife and sons were unconditional and paramount to everything. He coached his sons in sports and more importantly in life. Marty inspired his boys to live life like he did. He was an amazing husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend. Marty was a simple; kind and giving to all. He made a positive impression on anyone who was fortunate enough to know him. He could tell the best stories and light up a room. His humor and advice have left lifetime impressions-he will be dearly missed by all lucky enough to know him. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother-in-law Phil Aragon and father-in-law John Cunico. Marty is also survived by his nine siblings: Dave Grantz (Sharyn), Daryl Grantz (Kathy), Tony Grantz (Holly), MaryAnne Aragon, Marsha Jones (Randy), Margie Walters (Jim), Monica Cordovano (Richard), Melinda Drobny (Dave), Melanie Rush (John).
