Marty John Amaro
March 16th, 1960 - February 3rd, 2021
It is with heavy heart, we announce the passing of Marty John Amaro who left this world February 3rd, 2021, after a courageous year long battle against pancreatic cancer. Marty died peacefully in his home and was surrounded by his family. He was born on March 16, 1960 to George and Dolores Amaro in Willows, CA. Marty graduated from Willows High School in 1979. He graduated from Butte College, with an Associates degree in electronics. Marty worked in the Bay Area for several years in the electronics industry. In 1988 he joined the Smyth family business, Smyth Tire, and eventually became co-owner. Throughout his 33 years there, he built an abundance of community relationships with his salt of the earth character. It was not uncommon to see Marty's truck at the shop well into the evening while he helped a customer or even a passerby. He was an animated storyteller that drew people in with his unique intonation and wit. He would often open one of his stories with a quick anecdote about an incident or person, which ultimately led him to share a second story that built on the first one. Before he was done most of his audience would be in tears of laughter. Perhaps most notable was the fact that his audience was often filled with both young and old admirers, his gift touched every generation who knew him. Marty enjoyed cycling, coaching baseball, the outdoors, and most of all spending time with his family. Marty was a devoted father who's patient, fun-loving approach, could not go by unmissed. Hardworking and multi-talented, Marty always had an ongoing project, many of which involved his children, nieces or nephews. Marty was an adored uncle to seventeen nieces and nephews, as well as 7 great nieces and nephews. It went without saying, he was considered "the favorite." They each shared a close relationship with him that was uniquely special, another one of Marty's many gifts. He was married to his best friend, Suzy, for 35 years. They enjoyed spending time together at Bucks Lake, Almanor, and traveling with their children. An avid beer enthusiast, Marty and Suzy often took time to enjoy a craft pint at various local restaurants. As luck would have it both of their sons were recruited to play college baseball and Marty and Suzy spent many weekends traveling to watch them play. Their travels provided lots of opportunities to explore numerous college communities and taste the best of what West Coast breweries had to offer. Marty was a man of true character with an outlook on life that was admirable. He was well respected and admired by many, someone people naturally gravitated to from all walks of life, young and old. His legacy will live on in the beautiful community of relationships he built with his generosity and humor. Marty will be especially missed by his wife, Suzy Amaro; three children; Patti, Andy and Jack Amaro all of Chico; mother, Dolores Amaro of Willows; sister, Corey (Yann) Amaro of St. Zacharie, France; brothers, Mathew (Shelley), Mark (Diane),and Zane Amaro, all of Willows. He was preceded in death by his father George Amaro in 2008. A private Catholic Mass, with burial at Glen Oaks Memorial will be held.
