Marvin “Brad” Whaley Fowler

Marvin “Brad” Whaley Fowler, 85, of Cayce, passed away on May 30th, 2024 following a brief illness. Born in Tabor City, NC, Brad was the son of the late Joe and Jesse Fowler. He was a graduate of Green Sea High School, Class of 1956. He married the love of his life, Lorena, in 1961 and they enjoyed over 63 years together. He proudly served in the United States Air Force, the South Carolina Air National Guard, and saw active duty during the Persian Gulf War. Brad worked most of his career at Fort Jackson as a civilian in the energy plant, but also had experience in drafting and repairing home appliances on the side. He was a man of deep faith and held many lay positions within the church such as choir director, Sunday school treasurer, and deacon. His military friends nicknamed him “Straight Arrow” because he saw things in black and white, and was steadfast in his convictions. However, he was also kind-hearted and quick to love those that didn’t share all of his beliefs. He was a generous man that came from very humble beginnings and looked to pinch pennies in his personal life so that he could freely share what he had with others. He was a loyal friend, loving husband, proud father, doting Papa, and will be sorely missed by all who knew him.

Brad is survived by his beloved wife, Lorena Faye Fowler; son, Marvin Randal Fowler (Jeanne) of Gaston; daughter, Melonie Fowler Lance (Stephen) of Irmo; grandchildren, Hayden Lance Freiburger (Ben) of Lexington, Carter Lance Reed (Hunter) of Columbia, Kalen Rush Lance of Irmo, Emma Elizabeth Faye Fowler of Gaston, and Dylan Whaley Fowler of Gaston; siblings, Carolinda Fowler Getz of Red Bank, Betty Fowler Autrey (Danny) of Pelion, Peggy Fowler Wilson of Pelion, and Melvin Wayne Fowler (Terri) of Pelion. He is predeceased by brothers Maurice Fowler of Green Sea, and Julius Elvin Fowler (Louise) of Hannahan, SC.

The family will receive visitors in the vestibule of Gantt Street Baptist Church located at 2121 Gantt Street in Cayce, SC at 12:00 pm on Monday, June 3rd, 2024. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm in the main sanctuary. A military burial service will be held at Southland Memorial Gardens located at 700 West Dunbar Road, West Columbia, immediately following the service.
