Marvin Matthews

Marvin Andrew Matthews Charlotte- Marvin passed away peacefully on January 17, 2017, at CMC Pineville. He was born on August 8, 1923 in Apex, NC. Marvin served in the United States Army in World War II, fighting in Sicily, Naples, Rome, Rhineland, and Central Europe. His induction date was January 21, 1943, and he was honorably discharged on November 29, 1945 as a Technician Fifth Grade. He earned various medals to include American Theater Campaign Medal, EAMET Campaign Medal, Victory Medal, and Five Bronze Service Stars. Upon his return to the United States, he worked for the same company, Ceco Steel, for over 30 years, where he retired as Superintendent. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, pastimes that he passed down to his children and grandchildren. Marvin was predeceased by his wife, Kathleen in 1990. He is survived by his five children Mary Ann Addis, Kathy Atchley, Chris Matthews and wife Patty, Linda Matthews and wife Paula, and Juleanne Furr and husband Bryan. Marvin had 11 grandchildren; Christy Norton and husband Joe, Matt Addis and wife Jennifer, Kelly Peisel and husband Brad, Christopher Addis, Kaity Addis, Hunter Matthews, Nick Roberts, Ansley Roberts, Jordan Furr, Mason Roberts and Fuzzy Furr. In addition, he had 5 great-grandchildren. Marvin is also survived by his brother Gordon Matthews and sister Mattie Agnes Price of Angier, NC. A service to celebrate his life will be held at JB Tallent Funeral Service & Crematory on Saturday, January 21, 2017 at 4:00pm, 1937 N Sharon Amity Road, Charlotte, NC 28205.
