Mary Alene Puckett Barber
May 2nd, 1921 - June 16th, 2016
Frankfort, KY Mary Alene Puckett Barber, 95, a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and aunt, passed away Thursday at her home after a long illness. Mrs. Barber was the widow of the late James William Barber to whom she was married for 31 years and the daughter of the late John Edward Puckett and Hallie Kaze Puckett. In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Barber was preceded in death by her brother, Marshall Puckett, and her sister, Martha Puckett Turner Wheeler. Mrs. Barber was born on May 2, 1921, in Shelby County, Kentucky. She graduated from Peaks Mill High School in 1940. After working at Union Underwear for 15 years and spending several years as a stay at home mom, she worked in the Department of Human Resources in Vital Statistics for 17 years. A woman of strong faith who loved serving the Lord, Mrs. Barber was the director of the nursery at Thornhill Baptist Church for 32+ years. She was like a grandmother to many children who passed through the nursery and second generations as well. She was the friendly face of the lady who faithfully prepared a meal for the youth choir on Sunday evenings during Snack-N-Yak. Among her other activities at Thornhill Mrs. Barber was dedicated to service in the Faithful Workers Sunday School Class, Women's Missionary Union, and Golden Agers. While at Crestwood Baptist she was a member of the Ruth Sunday School Class and Young at Heart senior group. Mrs. Barber was known for her homemade pies that she prepared for the Young at Heart luncheons. Survivors include a daughter, Kaye Barber Triplett (Mike), Frankfort; grandchildren, Jeremy Stewart Triplett (Julia) and Tiffany Nicole Triplett, both of Frankfort; great-grandchildren, Harper Kate Triplett and Reagan Blair Triplett, both of Frankfort; a nephew, Bill Turner (Sharon), Louisville; nieces, Judy Munninghoff (Lance) and Susie Atwell (Tom), both of Louisville; Brenda Alice Reed (Kenny), Versailles; and Marilyn Flora (Gary), Versailles. In addition she is survived by great-nieces and nephews and many devoted friends. Funeral Information Funeral services will be held at Clark Legacy Center, Versailles Road on Tuesday at 10:00am with burial at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Rev. William Hartung, Tony Elam, and Hospice Chaplain Rev. Esther Sapp will officiate. Visitation will be on Monday from 5:00pm to 8:00pm at the funeral home. Jeremy Triplett, Tiffany Triplett, Bill Turner, Kenny Reed, Tom Atwell, Harold Robinson, and Fred Goins will serve as pallbearers.
