Miss Mary M. Calandra, age 102, formerly of Gloversville, died Friday, August 5, 2016 at Wells Nursing Home, Johnstown, where she has resided for several years. She was born June 10, 1914 in Gloversville, the daughter of James and Adeline Gizzi Calandra. She worked at Mario Papa and Sons and also at Crocetta Brothers Gloves. She was co-owner of Calandra's W. Eighth Avenue Market. Mary was a member of Sacred Heart Church in Gloversville. She is survived by nieces and nephews: Diane Tange (Howard) of Gloversville, James Calandra of Tampa, FL; Christine Cassaro (Chuck) of Gloversville, Claudia Geoghegan (John) of Tampa, FL and Mary Roosevelt of Gloversville; her sister-in-law, Annette Calandra of Gloversville; a grandnephew, Josh Roosevelt and a grandniece, Brittany Stanzel. In addition to her parents, Mary was predeceased by her brothers Albert J. Calandra and Joseph Calandra and a niece, Joanne Calandra. There will be no calling hours. A graveside service will be held at 11:30am Tuesday, August 9 at Prospect Hill Cemetery (east side of Kingsboro Ave. section), Gloversville. Arrangements are by Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, Gloversville. Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to the James A. Brennan Memorial Humane Society.
