Flahiff Funeral Chapels & Crematory-Caldwell
Mary Cegnar
January 28th, 1919 - September 6th, 2017
Mary departed this world for heaven Sept. 6, 2017 at the age of 98 of Homedale. She was born Jan. 28, 1919 to John and Mary Chadez. She grew up on a farm with 5 other siblings. Her family was part of the original Austrian settlers who came to Homedale. She excelled in school and was salutatorian of the 1937 Homedale H.S. class. She worked as a secretary for the county assessor in Murphy ID until her marriage to John Cegnar in 1943. Together they raised five children on a dairy farm. She greatly valued her faith and family and was active in raising her grandchildren. She was a lifelong member of the Catholic Church, taught Sunday school and was in the Alter society. She was a sewing 4-H leader, on the Homedale bowling league and a member of Dairy Wives and SNJP (Slovenian) Lodge. She was a consummate homemaker and seamstress. She always had homemade baked goodies ready for those who might stop by. She had beautiful gardens, played the harmonica and made beautiful quilts, crocheted and embroidered items, and crafts. One of the highlights of her life was traveling to Slovenia to visit her parent’s homeland in 1980 with her eldest daughter. She loved polka music and eating anything chocolate. Her fried chicken, apple pie and potica were sought after at family potlucks. She had exquisite penmanship. Mary was sweet, patient, kind, reserved, always a lady, modest of her many talents and a true Christian. She was preceded in death by her husband John and two children, Carol Frazier and Dan Cegnar. Surviving family members include her 3 siblings Ed (Helen) Chadez, Florence Paxton, and Ted (Lesta) Chadez, 3 children Bill Cegnar, Marilinn (Reed) Batt, and Janet (Norm) Brown, 14 grandchildren Mike Frazier, Susan Frazier, Justin Cegnar, Erik Cegnar, Chris (Dietra) Batt, Dustin (Lindsay) Batt, Spencer Batt, Shannon Batt, Brandie (Ross) Campbell, Keith (Ashley) Cegnar, Brian Cegnar, Sarah Cegnar, Brooke Brown and Luke Brown and 16 great grandchildren Skylar Frazier, Ava and Huston Batt, Vanrensselaer, Henley and Jude Batt, Anthony, Tyson and Troy Campbell, Aaidan, Ashdan Elumbaugh, Korban, Kenna and Prestan Cegnar, and Isaac and Janessa Cegnar. We are so grateful for the loving care provided by Michelle Davis at By His Grace Family Home in Parma. Viewing will be held on Thursday, Sept. 14, 2017 from 5-7 PM at Flahiff Funeral Chapel in Homedale. Funeral services will be held at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church in Caldwell, ID at 10:30 AM on Friday, Sept. 15, 2017. Burial follow at Marsing-Homedale Cemetery, with A Reception to follow at the Homedale Basque Center. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to the Homedale Basque Center (PO Box 1163, Homedale, ID 83628). Condolences given at www.Flahifffuneralchapel.com .
