Mary "Cope" Rosalie Crick
March 15th, 2019
Mary Rosalie (Cope) Crick, age 92, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 15, 2019. She was born on February 25, 1927 in Oblong, Illinois to Walter and Nell (Nesbitt) Cope, to a large family with one brother and “a baseball team of girls” whom she adored. She left home for Washington, DC at age 17 to work as a secretary for the government during WWII. While she was there, she met her husband John Carleton Crick and they had five children. She always had a special place in her heart for children, and extended her love to numerous foster children she raised as her own. Throughout her life, she enjoyed embroidery, reading, gardening and traveling, but mostly she enjoyed spending time with her children. She is survived by and will be greatly missed by her family: sister, Alma Schmitz and husband Dick; son Steve and wife Joyce Crick of Stanly, VA; daughter Catherine DeNobile and husband Larry Pence; son Kevin Crick, all of Arlington, VA; son, Keith and wife Pam Crick of Winchester; daughter Linda and husband Shawn Tripp of Ellington, CT; grandchildren: Lisa and husband Alvin Nichols, Jason Crick, Maureen Womack, Greg Womack, Amy and husband David Wilson, Robin Tripp, Kate DeNobile, Megan DeNobile, Greg Pence, and Kevin Pence; great-grandchildren: Nicole Nichols, Lauren Nichols, Carleigh Nichols, Rayne Sperry, Tripp Wilson, Piper Wilson, Keely Pence, Gavin Pence, and Kaelyn Pence. She is predeceased by her grandchildren Trevor Womack and Jack DeNobile. A service to celebrate her life will be held on Friday, March 22, 2019 at 12 noon (viewing at 11 am) at Advent Funeral Home, 7211 Lee Highway, Falls Church, VA 22046. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to comfortcases.org, an organization which provides items to children entering the foster care system.
