Mary "Betty" W. Ferris
August 4th, 1937 - September 16th, 2009
Ferris, Mary W. "Betty" 78, of St. Petersburg died peacefully at home, Monday, Sept 14, 2009 after a short battle with pancreatic cancer. She was surrounded by her loving family who sincerely thank Suncoast Hospice for her excellent care. Betty was born August 4th, 1931 in Little Rock Arkansas. She was a graduate of Rhodes College in Memphis, TN and received her Masters Degree in Library Science from Emory University in Atlanta. She was a member of the charter staff of the library at USF in Tampa and later worked to establish the book collection at the campus in St. Petersburg. She was an avid quilter and tireless volunteer for numerous charitable causes. She was honored with the 2005 McAdams Peace Award for her many years of dedicated service to the children at the Happy Workers Daycare Center. She and her husband Harold would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary October 17, 2009. Other survivors include her brother William Wade Margaret of Bristol, TN, daughter Susan Booth Todd of Atlanta, son Wade Jamie of Clearwater and 3 grandsons. There will be a Celebration of her Life at Anderson-McQueen Family Tribute Center, 2201 MLK St. No. from 2-4PM on Saturday, September 19th. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to Suncoast Hospice or the charity of your choice.
