Mary Lois Gambill

May 24th, 1926 - April 20th, 2012

Mary passed away in Newberg, Oregon on April 20, 2012 due to natural causes. She was born in Cogar, Oklahoma on May 24, 1926 to Sidney F. and Lorraine Adams Finch. She graduated from Bret Hartle Union High School, Angels Camp, CA in 1942. Following her graduation she moved with her family to St. Helena, California. Mary worked at Mare Island Naval Ship yard, where she met her husband, William E. Gambill, they were married in St. Helena on July 14, 1945. In 1969 she went to work for the St. Helena School District as an elementary school librarian, she retired from that position in 1988. After residing in St. Helena for 47 years, she moved with her husband to Dundee, Oregon in 1992. Mary was a member of St. Barnabas Episcopal Church in Newberg, Oregon. She also served as President for the Local CSEA Chapter in St. Helena, CA. Entertaining friends and family was something Mary enjoyed as well as reading, cooking and shopping. Mary is survived by her daughters, Phyllis (Curt) Wade of Dundee, OR, and Carol (Roger) Clague of Sacramento, CA; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; sisters, Betty March of Calistoga, CA, Laura (Ray) Musgrove of La Pine, OR, Fran (Ken) Young of Clearlake Oaks, CA and Susan (Bill) Laymon of Lower Lake, CA; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, William (Bill) Gambill, and her parents, Sid and Lorraine Finch. A memorial service will be held at a later date, interment will take place at Willamette National Cemetery. Arrangements by Autumn Funerals, Cremation & Burial, Tigard, Oregon.
