Mary Susan Gilkey

August 8th, 1952 - August 3rd, 2024

Mary Susan Hunt Gilkey was born on August 9, 1952, to James and Virginia Hunt in Mishawaka Indiana. Mary passed away August 3, 2024, at the Good Sheperd Hospice, in Auburndale Florida.

 

Her family moved to Winter Haven Florida in 1963. She graduated from Winter Haven High School in 1970. She went on to graduate from Polk Community College (Polk State) in 1972 and the University of West Florida.

 

Mary enlisted in the United States Army in 1979 and went to the Defense Language Institute to learn Russian. There she met her husband Arthur Talbot Gilkey. They were married on December 28, 1979, in Winter Haven Fl, and were still married at her death.

 

Mary was preceded in death by parents James and Virginia Hunt, and two of her sisters Pat Parker and Joyce Murdoch.

 

 She is survived by her husband Arthur, her son John David Gilkey, her sister Charline Blauw, and her two brothers James and John Hunt. She was also survived by many nephews, nieces, and grand nephews and nieces.

 

Her memorial service will be held at Cypress Ridge PCA Church, 6230 Cypress Gardens Blvd, Winter Haven, Fl on Aug 24th at 11am.

My sister,Susan was a beautiful person inside and out. She had such a great sense of humor and could argue her politics like a pro. Her family was her everything, however the Lord always came first. I will miss you Susan, I bet your first birthday in Heaven was grand.
