Mary Johanna Gizara

Mary Johanna D. Myers Gizara, 77, of Amsterdam, passed away Tuesday, March 4, 2014 at the E.L. Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility in Amsterdam with her loving family at her side. Born in Fort Johnson, NY on August 28, 1936 a daughter of the late Glenn Myers and Rose Carbone Guynup. Mary was a graduate of the former Wilbur H. Lynch High School Class of 1954. On July 3, 1954 she was united in marriage to her husband Henry P. Gizara. They first lived in Tachikawa, Japan where Henry was serving in the U.S. Air Force. They started their family in 1956 and for the following 23 years resided in Japan, Utah, Pennsylvania, Goose Bay Labrador, Plattsburg, NY and Guam. They returned to Amsterdam in 1969 when Hank retired. Mary worked for a time at the former Larabie's Dept. Store in Amsterdam. She also was an Assistant Manager with AVON for 15 years. In 1976 Mary along with her husband Hank started the Amsterdam Professional Answering Service which they ran out of their home until 1999. Mary loved being around people and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was a communicant of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Amsterdam. Survivors include her children, Joanna Chuck Goldy of Amsterdam, Rose AnnHans Proske of Northville, NY, Paul H.Lori Gizara of Amsterdam, Louis E.Lisa Ann Gizara of Amsterdam, Theresa Doug Chrysler of Pattersonville, William "Willie" Gizara of Amsterdam, PattiGary Aldi of Marcy, NY and Lisa Tim Becker of Amsterdam. A Brother in Law, Chet Carol Gizara of Amsterdam. Thirteen grandchildren, Heather, John, Christian, Hanna, Christopher, Kyle, Lauren, Anthony, Katie, Sam, Ben, Zach, and James. Two aunts, Florence Warren and Catherine Edmund Swierzowski. One uncle, John Stella Carbone . Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Henry P. "Hank" Gizara on July 11, 2001 and step-father, Orville Guynup. Mary's family would like to thank the 2nd Floor Nurses and Staff of the Wilkinson Residential Facility for the wonderful care extended to our mother. A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday March 7, 2014 at 9:15A.M. at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, 156 East Main St., Amsterdam with Father John Medwid as celebrant. Interment is in St. Mary's Cemetery, Ft. Johnson, NY. The family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday March 6, 2014 from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam, NY. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or to the Montgomery County SPCA, 1007 State Hwy 5s, Amsterdam, NY 12010.
