Mrs. Mary Ruth Lloyd, 85, of Greensboro, died Thursday, May 28, 2015. Funeral services will be held 2:00 pm Thursday, at Starmount Presbyterian Church with the Reverend John Odom officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery. Mrs. Lloyd was born in Canton, NC, August 7, 1929 the second child of Howard Jackson and Nora Hall. She attended Canton High School -Val Victorian, attended Mars Hill College, Mars Hill, NC for two years, then transferred to Women's College now known as UNCG where she majored in Biology and was awarded membership in the Phi Beta Kappa Society. She was a huge lover of music and played in church as a teenager. She enjoyed classical music and Protestant hymns and later Jazz, Funk, Rock, and Reggae. She met her future husband of 60 years on a blind date, Robert Blackwell Lloyd, who was attending Duke Law School in Durham, N.C. They were married on May 29, 1951 by her father who was in the clergy, at what is now UNCG's Alumni House. They honeymooned in Bermuda and returned there for a second honeymoon in the 1990's. As a new mother and the wife of an upcoming attorney she became a homemaker and active member of her community. She was a member of: the Junior League, Founder of the Greensboro Lecture League. She taught Sunday school at the church she attended longest, Starmount Presbyterian Church and was a member of a Sunday school class called Circle. She was an active participant in several Bridge Clubs, the New Irving Park Garden Club, and a Page High School Beautification Program with her dear friend Mrs. Betsy Bullard. She was a member of the Blandwood Preservation Society, and volunteered at the Weatherspoon Art Gallery. She was a member of the GSO Symphony Guild and supporter of the Eastern Music Festival. As a lover of antiques she delighted at the chance to work at the High Point Furniture Market. Her interests were varied and she moved through life with a zest for knowledge. She was an avid lover of flowers and beautiful things Her travels included two highly anticipated trips to The Holy Land the latter with her son Brad in her womb. She also went on several trips to Europe with her husband and with Brad. One particular trip of note was one celebrating her husband's 80th birthday which included time in St. Petersburg, Russia, Sweden, and Norway. She went on one trip to Acapulco in 1969 with her husband and daughter Lisa where they met the astronauts who had just walked on the moon in July. She also traveled to the Far east including, Vietnam, Thailand, Singapore, and China. In recent times she made two trips to New Orleans with her son Brad. She also really enjoyed spending time at the Greenbriar in W. Virginia. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert Blackwell Lloyd Jr. and her son Robbie Blackwell Lloyd III. She is survived by her brothers, James Larry Hall and Dr. Cecil B. Hall (Miriam); children, Lisa Lloyd and Brad Lloyd; granddaughter, Gabriela Lloyd Tudor (Joel); great-granddaughter, Aura Tudor; several cousins, nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 5:30 to 7:30 pm Wednesday, at Lambeth-Troxler Funeral Home.
