Mary Holland Maynard

The world changed on October 10, 1933 when a tiny force of love was born to James William & Jean Denley Holland with their second child, Mary Elizabeth Holland. She was the shining jewel between two brothers, William (Bill) Holland and Richard (Dik) Holland. Her brothers would call her Sissie, a nickname that stuck with her all of her life. Sissie grew up in a time of extreme poverty but with a great wealth of love. She attended the University of Memphis where she attained a BA in Speech Pathology. She had her sights set on doing what she did best, helping others. While at the University of Memphis, she met the love of her life, Robert Raymond "Pete" Maynard. In their 47 years of marriage, they built a beautiful family that became the cornerstone of Sissies life. Together they raised 5 children; Terri, Rocky (Patty), Kem (Eric), Lisa (John) and Michael Patrick. Currently the Maynard family boasts 18 grandchildren, 16 great grands and more on the way! We also know that Sissies extended family goes well beyond any number we could imagine. Sissie and Pete eventually landed in Charlotte, NC where she became the proud owner of her own interior design shop. She went on to become the vice president of the family business while also being a vital member of her Catholic community. She devoted her time to countless civic and charitable causes all while being a 5 star "Nana", burning up the road for any activity she could shuffle a grandkid to or from. Sissie loved sports, her church, her people, and a glass of red wine. Her Sunday afternoons were spent enjoying golf & football and she never missed her Memphis Tigers on game day. If you knew Sissie, you loved her. Even during the toughest of times, she always had a kind word and a beautiful smile, she brought joy every where she went. She had a servant's heart and a quick wit - never one to miss out on a good time. Any of us fortunate enough to be in her path, miss her dearly. She was welcomed into heaven by her precious husband Pete, her granddaughter Kaleigh, her brother Bill and many other family members & friends. Heaven gained a beautiful soul on the morning of April 22, 2022. There's so much more we could say but we'll end with her favorite words: I love you baby, dont forget to put your makeup on, and well see you soon!
