Adam was a great person to our family he will be deeply missed. I have a lot of great memories of him and will cherish them all.

It is difficult for me to accept the fact that Jim has passed.  I had sent him “Happy Birthday” wishes shortly after his 81st birthday and got an email from him on April 25th thanking me.  Since Jim and I have known one another since our junior year in high school, I had asked in the birthday email “Where have the years gone?”  Jim answered “Where did all the time go?  It all passed one day at a time and I enjoyed every one of them.”  What better epitaph could one have on one’s life than is reflected in that statement.

Jim and I met when our fathers, who worked for Chrysler (or a Chrysler subsidiary) in Indiana, moved to the St. Louis Missouri area, where Chrysler built a state-of-the-art facility for manufacturing cars.  Jim and I shared a love for chemistry, various outdoor activities, and camping.  We did chemistry experiments together, one of which blew up in our faces; skated on Creve Coeur Lake, where Jim’s family lived, in the winter; drove around in his family’s Renault, which always had something wrong with it; and went camping together, some with expected results (a drop in temperature that left the cold stream beside our tent was “steaming”).  He was a true friend and, although we lost touch somewhat when he joined the Air Force and I was busy with my career, we were never disconnected.

Although Jim clearly loved chemistry and eventually attended the same university that I did and got a degree in chemistry (he was delayed because he took a job at a paint company right after high school), I should have realized that this was not his calling.  When we were in high school, Jim would often say, “Let’s go to Lambert Field and watch the planes land and take off” (I think there may have been Air Force jets landing there at that time).  Eventually, he decided to pursue his dream and became an Air Force pilot and, eventually, a commercial pilot.  During this period, he would often regale me with stories of flight mishaps (not his) that had recently occurred.  Flying in those days was risky, especially in state-of-the-art military jets.  But, he loved flying.

There is another part to this story.  Patty (yes, I still think of her as Patty) is my first cousin.  In fact, her father, as well as all of my uncles on the Colvin side of the family, worked for Chrysler in Evansville, Indiana and moved to Missouri together.  Patty and I grew up in the small town in southern Indiana that our grandparents and much of the rest of our family lived in: Francisco, Indiana.  We lived in this town of 724 people until our sophomore year in high school, when we moved to Missouri.  Patty is only a month older than me, so we were in the same grade and did many things together, including playing badminton with our friends in the large grassy area behind her house and attending many family holiday gatherings.  When I read Mark Twain’s The Adventures of Tom Sawyer in high school, I realized that our childhoods were not so different than his (a far cry from childhood today).  I do deserve credit for introducing Patty to Jim — not that I really introduced them, rather she met Jim because he and I were often together.  Jim was devoted to Patty and in that last email he was thinking of her well-being and hoping for more years together.

In my reply to Jim’s email on the 25th, I wrote “If you and Pat would like a change in scenery, we would love to have you visit” (we live in the Pacific Northwest).  It never crossed my mind that there would not be enough time for that visit.

Very well written obituary.  My favorite memory was when Ron and I were putting an engine in a car at mom and dads.  Jim came to talk to dad, went back changed clothes and started helping us.  Must have been that helpful Hoosier blood.                        I think his mom was Dad's cousin.

A high school friend and maid of honor at her wedding.  A very talented person and remarkable family.

what fun we had with our boys when they were babies   pam always made me laugh  memories of my young family will always include pam  that remarkable smile loving acceptance  

I will always remember Pam for her many talents---as a fine water colorist, vocalist and dramatist, just to name a few,  but what made her unique as a friend was her incredible zest for life and her awesome courage in the face of countless medical problems and surgeries. She was very brave, and that bravery will always be an inspiration for me. Pam  had an irrepressible spirit!

With that mischievous gleam in her eye, Pam was irrepressible. She adored all her friends with all her heart. And she loved to tell and hear jokes, and have a great laugh. There is a place in my heart for her always.

Remember and missing all the love you had me and my family so many great times we share with many laughs. I am truly greatful for the understanding of life and will never forget all we have shared.

We always enjoyed Pam's positive outlook on live and great spirit.

My father was always serving his family and enjoyed doing it. I remember him being very social and striking up conversations with strangers wherever we went. He taught me many important life lessons while working on my Volkswagen late at night. He never complained about getting up during the summer at 3:00 or 4:00 in the morning to drop me off at my job working concrete. We had many fun times taking our 3-wheeler to the desert or the mountains in the back of his truck. I'm glad he is now released from his mortal body that was holding him back. I will miss him. I love you, Dad. Kendrick.

Uncle Lenard was such an amazing guy! I loved growing up going to visit my cousin, Janae at Aunt Joann and Uncle Lenard's house. So many fun experiences riding bikes, playing across the street at the school, and just hanging out. Uncle Lenard was always so kind. Praying for the family. Love you all!

My brother was such a great guy. I am six years younger than he. I remember hearing a car door slam very early one morning. Unusual for our area. I went to front door and there was Lenard, home from his mission. Surprise! He was so pleased. Lenard loved cars, all cars. Loved fixing them. It was a lifelong passion. Lenard and Joann were married the summer before Dave and I were. They had a long and dedicated marriage. He always spoke of Joann with so much love. They were devoted parents. I had some good visits with my brother after he located to assisted living home. He was smart, funny and cherished his wife and children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Vaya con Dios, mi Hermano.

lenard was my maternal grandfather, he was an amazing grandfather. he always had jokes and never failed to tell them all, even over and over. if you asked him to do his donald duck voice no matter what mood he was in he would do it. i love you forever grandpa, you will never be forgotten.

I met Lenard in 1963, a couple of years before Joann came into his life. He was a "fixture" at the LDS Institute at ASU when I started school there. He was either n upper classman or a graduate student. He was friendly and welcoming to us new Freshmen. He P\possessed a keen wit and an amazing sense of humor. Everyone liked him. When i found out that Joann had met him and was dating him, I wondered why it had not occurred to me to introduce them. Over the years I have enjoyed interactions with Lenard at family events. Lenard was a very positive addition to our family. I value my memories of him. Many people will miss him.

Robert Baumgarten

I was Bob’s hygienist for many many years and it was always a bright spot in my day to see him on my schedule. He had a warm and friendly smile, eyes that always sparkled, and a heart as big as all outdoors. It was an honor to know him.

What a blessing that Mr. Baumgarten came to Notre Dame Academy in our sophomore year.  A great math teacher yes, but with a sense of humor and an ability to relate to a generation of students who were coming of age in the late 60's and early 70's. A great friend who made time to maintain ties with us (Class of '71).  He made us all feel special. 

So proud of his family and passionate about their well-being. Thank you for sharing him with us. 

May your fond memories of him give you comfort and keep you smiling.
