Online Obituaries for Lexington, Frankfort, and Versailles KY Mary Mayes Napier, 80, wife of Paul Napier, died Sunday, September 4, 2016 at her residence in Lexington. She was born Newport, Tennessee, daughter of the late William Thomas and Edna Nelivee Owenby Buchannan. She was a former secretary with Lockheed Aircraft and a member of Gardenside Baptist Church. Surviving besides her husband, are her daughter, Dr. Sharon Napier {Dr. Robert Baker}, Lexington; two sons, Ronnie {Kristie} Napier, Orlando, Florida; Randy {Dana} Napier, Lexington; sister, June Whitehead, Columbus, Mississippi; brother, William Mayes, Melbourne, Florida; and six grandchildren, David Napier, Lexington; Ariel Napier, Orlando, Florida; Dylan Napier, Ryan Baker, Juliette Napier and Malcolm Napier, all of Lexington. Mary enjoyed competitive roller skating in her adolescence. She attended Georgia Tech and later worked for Lockheed. She married Paul after knowing each other for 30 days and just celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary! She was so proud of their 3 children. Ron always wanted to fly planes and became a Captain as a pilot. Mary was very involved in baton twirling competitions of Sharon's. She made elaborately decorated twirling costumes and formals for Sharon's competitions and was proud of the National titles she won. Mary taught over 100 children baton, made costumes for them and helped them in contests and parades. Later, Mary was also proud of Sharon becoming a physician. Randy always wanted to write video games as a child, he won a national Nintendo competition in California, and indeed became a computer programmer, including developing several games in addition to his day job. Mary was always upbeat with a positive go-get-em attitude who loved people. She was known as Momma Napier to all the kids' friends, and specially the band kids at Madison Central where she played an active role. She was a very special mom, loved by all, who always put her family first, with love. She will always hold a special place in the hearts of those who knew her. God bless you. Visitation will be 9:30 -11 a.m Thursday, September 8, 2016 followed by her funeral service at 11am. Burial will be at Camp Nelson National Cemetery at 12:30.
