MARY ANN “MINDY” HALLER PAMPEL Mary Ann “Mindy” Haller Pampel, 85, passed away peacefully in Hilton Head Island, SC, on October 21, 2023. Mindy was born June 7, 1938, in Pittsburgh, PA, to Mary Kathryn (Nolan) Haller and John Samuel Haller. She was preceded in death by her husband, William “Bill” Sumner Pampel and daughter, Kathryn Stevenson (Pampel) Henn. Mindy was a spirited, faithful, and deeply beloved wife, mother, sister, and grandmother. She is survived by her siblings, John (Robin) S. Haller Jr., Judith (Dan) Edgar, Susan (Don) Frankenberry, James (Nancy) N. Haller, first cousin Daniel (Linda) Haller, her daughter, Elizabeth A. Pampel Willock, son-in-law Michael L. Henn, brother-in-law Joe (Kris) Pampel, granddaughters Kelsey (Alex) W. Jones and Annie M. Hasson, and grandsons William “Jamie” Willock, Charlie A. Hasson, Ryan N. Willock, Michael L. Henn and Patrick J. Henn, twelve nieces and nephews and four Godchildren. Raised in the McMurray suburb of Pittsburgh, Mindy attended St. Francis Academy and Mt. Lebanon High School, and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Northwestern University where she was a proud member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. Always supportive of her husband Bill’s banking career, Mindy lived in Pittsburgh, Tokyo (briefly), and Melbourne, Australia, and traveled to over 60 countries in search of adventure and a deep understanding of world history and culture. She was committed to helping others and demonstrated this in many ways. While living in Pittsburgh, she was a dedicated member of the Junior League and chaired fundraising events for the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra and the Three Rivers Arts Festival. She was also an active Board member of the Pittsburgh Youth Symphony, a founding member of the Forbes Hospice, and active supporter of the St. Scholastica Parish. Mindy was exceptionally close to her siblings, daughters, son-in-law and grandchildren. She was the life of the party and will be remembered for her myriad talents and qualities as an artist and gourmet chef, a sports fanatic, as well as for her creativity, humor, generosity of spirit, and ability to make others believe in themselves and their dreams. Many of her paintings highlight the inner spirit of those less fortunate, illustrating their dignity, honor and humanity. Mindy was modest in recalling her accomplishments but magnanimous in personality and love of sports. She was a lifelong golfer and enjoyed the golf communities at the Fox Chapel, Royal Melbourne, and Desert Highlands Golf Clubs. Every round included competition and the occasional mulligan, be it with her husband, friends, daughters, or grandchildren. Private memorial services are being planned in Chicago, Pittsburgh, and Scottsdale. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to SFX Church, with memo to: Kathryn Pampel Henn Haiti Fund. Checks may be mailed to: SFX Parish, 1747 Lake Ave., Wilmette, IL 60091.
