OBITUARY OF MARY ELLIE RENAU

Mary Ellie Renau, 103, of Charleston, South Carolina, entered into eternal rest on May 28, 2024 at White Oak Manor Residential Nursing Center, North Charleston, SC.

The relatives and close friends of Mary Ellie Renau are invited to attend her memorial graveside service on Thursday, June 13, 2024 at 4:00 pm at St. Lawrence Cemetery, 60 Huguenin Avenue, Charleston, SC 29403.

Mary was born August 22, 1921 in Charleston, SC, daughter of the late John Henry Renau and Georgie Keen Renau. She was educated in Charleston County schools and was a graduate of Murray Vocational High School.

Mary was a life-long Charlestonian and lived in downtown Charleston the majority of her 103 years. A former resident of The Canterbury House at 175 Market Street for approximately 20 years.

Her work career in Charleston was centered around administrative and secretarial work and telephone sales.

Mary never married or had children, but she loved all of her nieces and nephews like they were her own and she was like a second mother to them. She loved to babysit and would often take her nieces and nephews downtown to go shopping, to the movies, have lunch and ride the bus. She was a long-time nanny to Alicia Errthum and family. She also loved to frequent Folly Beach and vacations to Miami Beach in earlier years.

Mary loved living in Charleston, walked or rode the bus everywhere since she never owned or drove a car. Lived a simplistic lifestyle, loved spending time with her family, especially on holidays.

She was a lovely, caring woman who was a devout Catholic who loved the Lord and was a weekly regular at the Cathedral of St John the Baptist on Broad Street in Charleston.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Hazel Lucas, and five brothers, Joseph, John, George, Harry, and Frank Richard Renau. She is survived by several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

Her family would like to thank the staff at White Oak Manor Charleston for all of the love and care they provided to her these past few years of her life; and Hospice Care as well.
