Mary Squire

Mary Squire passed away peacefully at home on November 8, 2019 with her family at her side. She was born on August 9, 1929 in Alexandria, Egypt where she met her husband who was stationed there during the 2nd world war and then moved to England. After living in England for a year they immigrated to Northern Rhodesia - present day Zambia - where they raised 3 of their 4 children. In the 1960's the family moved to South Africa where their 4th child was born. She made her final move to The United States in 2005 to be close to family. Mary was an accomplished seamstress and ran her own business creating beautiful wedding dresses as well as dresses for bridesmaids and mothers of the bride. She was also an accomplished cake decorator often creating wedding cakes for the brides she made dresses for. She was involved in the altar flower ministry of her church for many years. In her later years she became involved in her church's sewing guild making bereavement blankets. In addition to her parents Mary was predeceased by her husband of 46 years, Buck Squire, and her brother, Alfred Peralta. She is survived by her son Christopher Squire and his wife, Ingrid, of Winston Salem, NC. Her daughters Jane Dreyer and her husband David of Charlotte, NC; Dian Hanratty and her husband Barry, of South Africa; Nikki Whitfield and her husband Bruce of England; grandchildren Andrew, Claire, Travis, Victoria, Sebastian, Antony, Olivia and Oscar. Great Grandchildren Chloe, Noah, Leia and Stella. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2pm on Friday November 15 at St. Gabriel Catholic Church. A reception will follow in the Fellowship Hall. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to Hospice and Palliative Care, Charlotte Region. 7845 Little Avenue, Charlotte, 28226.
