Mary Gertrude Sullivan
September 11th, 1922 - February 9th, 2019
"Belchertown, Mary G. Sullivan, 96, died peacefully at her home with her loving family by her side on Saturday, February 9, 2019. Born in Holyoke on September 11, 1922, she was the daughter of Cornelius and Lucy (Hanifin) Sullivan. Mary resided in Belchertown her entire life, a graduate of Belchertown High School she went on to attend the former Bay Path Junior College. She was employed by Monarch Life Insurance Company for 40 years, retiring as the administartive assistant to the Executive Vice President. Mary was a communicant of the former St. Bartholemew Church and most recently St. Thomas Church in Palmer. In her leisure, Mary enjoyed pottery, knitting, volunteering at Mary Lane Hospital and at the costume department at Old Sturbridge Village. She also enjoyed vacations on Cape Cod, concerts at Tanglewood and being an active member of the Belchertown Senior Center. She will be forever and deeply missed by her sister, Cornelia Sullivan of Boston and with whom resided with her, along with her cherished nieces and nephews, Peter Slaiby (Rejani) of Houston, TX, Jeffrey Slaiby (Marisa) of East Greenwhich, RI, Barbara Slaiby (Nelson Carter) of Lebanon, NH, Michael Sullivan of NY, NY and Penelope Sullivan (Jeffrey Ferguson) of Chicago, IL and six grand nieces and nephews. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her siblings, Thomas Sullivan, Ruth Sullivan and Margaret Slaiby. A Funeral Mass will be on Friday, February 15th at 11:00 am at St. Thomas Church in Palmer, please meet directly at the church. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Memorial donations in her memory may be made to The Belchertown Council on Aging, 60 State St., Belchertown, MA 01007. Beer sand Story Belchertown Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
