Mary M. Sweet

Mary M. Sweet, 97, formerly of Vrooman Avenue, Amsterdam, passed away Saturday evening, December 2, 2006 at the Montgomery Meadows Residential Health Care Facility in Amsterdam. Born in Amsterdam, New York on July 17, 1909. She was a daughter of Peter and Veronica Svirskas Raila. She attended Amsterdam schools. Mrs. Sweet was a resident of Amsterdam most of her life. She at one time lived in Buffalo, New York and Colonie. Mary was a communicant of St. Casimir?s Roman Catholic Church for many years in Amsterdam. She was a member of the St. Casimir?s Ladies Auxiliary, the Knights of Lithuania Council #100, the Living Rosary Society and the St. Casimir?s Seniors. She married I. Jack Sweet on October 20, 1928 he passed away on November 10, 1999. She is survived by her nieces, Kathleen Byrne of Red Bank, New Jersey and Mary Rogers of Orlando, Florida; one cousin, Helen Dombrowski of Amsterdam and her dear friends, Arlene and Walt Jasper of Amsterdam. Grand nieces, and nephews also survive. She was pre-deceased by her sister, Helen Raila. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, December 5, 2006 at 9:15AM at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00AM at St. Casimir?s Roman Catholic Church with Father Stanislaus Swierzowski as celebrant. Interment will be in St. Casimir?s Cemetery, Amsterdam. The family will receive relatives and friends on Monday from 3:00 to 6:00PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the St. Casimir?s Cemetery Fund.
