Mary Jane Turney
October 9th, 1927 - May 29th, 2011
Mary Jane Turney passed away May 29, 2011 in Jackson, Ca. at the age of 83 years. She was born October 9, 1927 to Adam and Anna (Richard) Diriwachter in Syracuse, NY. She was raised in Syracuse, graduating high school at age 16. In 1951 she met the charming Noah Turney and 6 months later they were married. Noah served during WWII and was preparing to leave for the Korean War when they were married. During his absence Mary Jane worked at a bank. It wasn't until Noah returned from Korea that they started their family. In 1969 she began working at Mather Air Force Base where she would continue to work until retiring in 1992. Noah and Mary Jane built a home in Pioneer, Ca. in 1980 but did not make the move to Amador County until 1990. She loved painting, gardening and was known for her green thumb. She is survived by her sons, Mark Turney of Ione, Ron Turney of Boardman, OH, Curtis Turney and wife, Eleonore of Sanford, NC, Chris Turney and wife, Michele of Cool, CA, Jeff Turney and wife, Kari of Roseville, CA; step-daughter, Pamela Sawyer and husband, Robert; grandchildren, Ryan, Shayne and Noah Turney and sister, Joyce Simpson of Syracuse, NY. A funeral service was held Wednesday, June 1, 2011 at Daneri Mortuary in Jackson. Inurnment will be at Sacramento Valley VA National Cemetery in Dixon. Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer's Society of Northern California, P.O. Box 1824, Sacramento, CA 95812.
