It is with deep sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing of Mary Hoàng Vũ on Wednesday, November 15, 2023 at her residence, while surrounded by her beloved family. She was born in Hà Nội, Vietnam to the late Trần Thị Sâm and Hoàng Bá Lưu. She was one of 11 children. Mary was a kindergarten teacher in Vietnam before immigrating to the United States for religious freedom and a better future for her family. She was an active member of St. Martin de Porres in Columbia, South Carolina, and a church in Vietnam where she served the community faithfully. She was very committed to a mission to help others; she supported orphanages, those in need, and the Catholic community in Vietnam to name a few. Her love, kindness, and generosity was felt by the many people she helped and encountered. Mary was known for her devotion to her faith and family, giving good advice, wittiness, and her cooking. She made the best thịt kho, a Vietnamese dish, a skill unfortunately only a few of her children inherited. She was the devoted wife of her late husband, Paul Cường Vũ, married for over 41 years and they are now reunited in Heaven. Mary is survived by her seven children and their spouses: Hoang Dung Vũ and Quý Trinh, Mai Vũ, Scott Vũ and Trang Nguyễn, Liễu Michelle Pham and Giang Pham, Bic Vũ, Lisa Bich Hải Vũ, and Nga (Amy) Dwork and Jeremy Dwork. She was loved and adored by her many grandchildren: Trinh Victor Vũ, Trinh Vincent Vũ and Louisa Tse, Trinh Daniel Vũ, Teresa Bui and Mitchell Narte, Michelle Tuyết Bui, Ethan Bui, David Vũ, Sarina Vũ, Lilly Vũ, PJ Pham, Zoey Pham, Simon Ho, Jayden Ho, William Dwork, and Elliott Dwork. Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers. For prayers, please pray for her saint name, Maria.
